Both girls ran hard and performed well in the meet. 137 girls ran and were scored, Katherine Clayton 47th ran a 22:30, while Catherine Acree 125th ran a 26:04.

"Katherine and Catherine represented our program, school, and community very well today. They both ran extremely hard and had outstanding performances.  I am so proud of both of them. It is such an honor for the two of them to be able to run at the State Championship Meet. This was a great way for them to help finish off an excellent season. They, along with all of their teammates, have made me proud to be their coach this season." said Coach Mark Snead.

Halifax Basketball season tips off today and a school record in sight

Halifax Academy's head Varsity coach Rick Ruffin during practice and senior Kelly Williams ready for hands on.

The Halifax Academy Viking’s 2015-16 basketball season kicks off this afternoon with home games against Lawrence Academy. The JV Lady Vikings tip-off at 3:15 followed by the JV boys then the varsity girls and will be closed out by the varsity boys.

When it comes to the varsity Lady Viking’s team, senior Kelly Williams has her eyes on this years complete season, but there is something else fans and school officials will be watching on. Williams who averaged 28 points per game last season is 106 points away from breaking the Halifax Academy Varsity Girls basketball school all-time leading scoring record. From her freshman year to last year her junior year, Williams has earned a total of 1,968 points while the current Halifax Academy record holder is Melissa Carico with a 2,073 total points scored set in 1993.

Another part of the twist is, William's mother Shannon was a teammate of Carico in 90 and 91 teams. They won the State Championship in 1991.

Varsity men’s coach and new Varsity Lady Vikings coach Rick Ruffin stated, “Kelly is fundamentally sound. She is a senior who is really displaying good leadership and has such a good work ethic in practice. I feel she should be getting more attention from colleges than she is right now. She should be outstanding this year.”
